I love change. I believe it makes me better. Who I am as an educator today came from my passion for movement and the unknown. I always have been the first to tackle new ideas or grade levels because I feel that it keeps me fresh, grounded, and always modeling the learning process for my students. In that tradition of change, this year I am assuming a new role in my school as the Instructional Technology Support Teacher. I hold no degrees in this field, but I am excited that the path ahead of me hasn't already been forged. I have the opportunity to tackle this new position alongside the rest of the teachers and children in my school.
My first step was to try and conceive when and how I was going to roll out some of the strategies to the classroom teachers. I wanted to give them ownership (choice and voice) in their learning. I decided to veer away from a traditional questionnaire and model a tool that they could later transfer into their own classrooms. That was when I decided to use the "Go to page based on answer" tool in Google Forms.
"Go to Page Based on Answer" in the Classroom
Imagine the information that you would be able to collect from your students using this feature.
The intrinsic motivation that comes from the students inclusion in planning their own learning is a huge piece makes this a very meaningful way to begin any task in the classroom.
Any other suggestions? I would love to see them in the comments section below.
- Grouping students for Literature Circles based on their interests.
- Formative assessments in Mathematics/Science/Social Studies etc. that adjust based on the students answers.
- More effective organization of roles in Project Based Learning situations.
